Sarah Koen (AKA Superfish) is offering Balance members a couple of free open water swim sessions. The requirements for this are that you MUST be able to swim 500m non stop and that you are interested in learning or perfecting swimming skills in the open water. Please bring flippers if you’re not 100% confident or at the slower end of the spectrum. Contact me if you’re not sure.
This is not open to anyone other than Balance members for insurance purposes, so please don’t bring anyone else along. Thanks!
Dates for December:
- Sunday December 4th – 8am start. Meet at Shelly Beach (click here for meeting location)
- Sunday December 11th – 8am start. Meet at Woolwich Baths
Please arrive in plenty of time so we can start on time. Both places are great to practice swimming in a wetsuit, and to overcome certain open water fears. The skills we will practice include race starts, sighting, turning around buoys and swimming in a pack.
The Woolwich Baths are an enclosed (shark net) swimming area on the Lane Cove River. It’s similar water to Nepean or Port Macquarie, even similar to Kurnell, so perfect for race prep! There’s no entry fee, there are showers and toilets and parking is free on the local streets. And just up the road are great cafes and the famous Woolwich Pier Hotel. Park near 74 Woolwich Road (google maps) and there’s a concrete staircase that leads down to the water. DO NOT park on Collingwood Street – there is no parking there. But that is where you end up Park & walk here…
Bookings are essential so please let me know if you are coming along and which dates. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org
